Forrest A hosted Markland Hill A on Wednesday evening in a Bolton League first division fixture. With both teams equal on points and Forrest only 2 games 'for' better off than the visitors, our A team were set for a tough match.
The A team made a fantastic start at first mixed as Christine Seddon and Matt Green beat Kath Wain-Mahoney and Syed Masood 21-12, 21-14.
Markland Hill's first couple consisting of Tracy Walker and Roger Taylor countered with two wins against Paula Wright and Ron Welsh. Third against third saw the games halved in two closely fought ends 19-21, 21-19.
At top mixed, Christine and Matt made hard work of their first game, but showed strong defence winning 21-19, however as they changed ends they looked sharp and dominated the second game 21-12.
At first ladies, the Forrest pairing of Christine and Caroline Bradshaw took the first game 22-20 but the steady pairing of Tracy Walker and Ruth Flatman claimed the second game 21-15.
At first men's, Matt, partnering Gary Bradshaw proved too strong for their opponents after winning a close first game 21-19, but with a faster game in the second, we won 21-14.
Forrest's second ladies split their games 21-18, 15-21, but guaranteed a win for the A team! A 10-8 win against Markland Hill's A team... I would like to check the record books, but I don't believe Forrest have beaten Markland Hill's top team for many, many, many years.
With the win, Forrest A sit at the top of A section, however they face the prospect of playing Bury A, last season's league winners, next week and the following week.
